This website is dedicated to the Japanese woodblock prints portraits of kabuki theater actors by Ota Masamitsu (1892-1975).
The prints come from my own collection unless specified otherwise.
The summary of the plays come from various sources, see page "References". But I would like to make a special mention of "Kabuki21" (www.kabuki.com), real treasure trove of information on kabuki, the plays, the actors and their families.
Note: The names have been transcribed using the traditional Japanese order, family name first, followed by surname.
A big "thank you" to Claude Amsterdamsky for proof reading and his suggestions.
This website is purely for your entertainment and education. There is no commercial intent and neither photos, nor prints are for sale. There is little original research contained in these web pages. The information has mostly been taken from books, catalogs and a few websites. If you notice something which should have attribution and does not, please let me know the details and I will add them. Ce site est dédié aux estampes japonaises de portraits d'acteurs de théâtre kabuki par Ota Masamitsu (1892-1975).
Les estampes proviennent de ma collection, sauf mention contraire.
Les résumés des pièces proviennent de différentes sources, voir page "Références", mais je voudrais spécialement mentionner "Kabuki21" (www.kabuki21.com), véritable mine d'or sur le kabuki, les pièces, les acteurs et leurs lignées.
Note: Les noms sont transcrits dans l'ordre traditionnel japonais nom de famille suivi par le prénom.
